
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, has continued his extensive stakeholder engagement and school system revitalization tour with visits to Aniocha North and Aniocha South Local Government Areas, as part of efforts to advance the educational vision and MORE Agenda of Sheriff Oborevwori.
The visit to Ogwashi-Uku, the administrative headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government Area, took place on Wednesday and marked the 24th local government visit undertaken by the SUBEB Chairman within the last three months, underscoring his commitment to grassroots engagement and education reform across the state.
Key Highlights of the Visit
During the engagement in Aniocha North, Hon. Mariere held a broad stakeholders’ meeting with representatives of the Local Government Council, traditional rulers under the Aniocha North Traditional Rulers Council, head teachers, vigilante groups, and other community stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, the SUBEB Chairman called on Local Government Councils to strengthen collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and SUBEB to enhance supervision and monitoring of public primary schools across the state. He emphasized that improved oversight remains critical to repositioning the basic education sector and improving learning outcomes.
Hon. Mariere also issued a firm warning against unethical practices within the school system, disclosing that disciplinary action would be taken against a teacher alleged to have extorted money from pupils for the collection of Primary Six results in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Commending positive initiatives, the Executive Chairman applauded the Aniocha Local Government Council for printing 10,000 copies of free exercise books, describing the gesture as a strong demonstration of commitment to grassroots education support.
In furtherance of skills acquisition and practical learning, Hon. Mariere announced the approval of ₦140 million by SUBEB for skills and agricultural development programmes in public primary schools across the state. He noted that the investment aligns with the Board’s strategy to equip pupils with foundational practical skills from an early stage.

The visit to Aniocha North and South Local Government Areas reflects the Executive Chairman’s continued resolve to strengthen partnerships with communities, traditional institutions, and local authorities in driving sustainable improvements in basic education.
SUBEB reiterated its commitment to implementing strategic initiatives that promote accountability, skills development, and quality education delivery across Delta State, in alignment with the Oborevwori administration’s development blueprint.
