Delta SUBEB Charges SBMCs on Transparency, Accountability in School Intervention Projects
September 23, 2026

The Executive Chairman, Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Samuel Mariere, has charged members of School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) to ensure transparency, accountability and effective community participation in the implementation of school intervention projects.
The charge was delivered on his behalf by the Director of Social Mobilization, Mr Felix Eghwujovwo, during the cluster-based briefing for representatives of the 2025 School-Based Management Committee–School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP), Project Implementation Sub-Committees (PISCs) and SBMC LGEA Desk Officers from 14 beneficiary schools, held at the SUBEB Headquarters, Asaba on Wednesday 23, September 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Mr Felix Eghwujovwo said the SBMC initiative was designed to bring school governance closer to communities, stressing that intervention funds were strictly for approved school projects and not for sharing.
He urged SBMC members, PISCs and LGEA SBMC Desk Officers to ensure transparency, proper documentation and effective supervision of projects, noting that UBEC and SUBEB would monitor implementation.
A representative of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mrs Brown-Akperi, also urged schools to develop and maintain School Development Plans to guide project selection and prioritise their needs. She encouraged communities to take ownership of their schools, stressing that improving basic education is a shared responsibility between government and host communities.
Also speaking, the State Chairman SBMC, Mr Sunday Okpare reminded participants that the intervention funds were not a “share of the cake” but resources meant solely for improving teaching and learning. He urged committees to work collectively, involve community stakeholders and ensure the successful execution of approved projects to enable more schools to benefit from future interventions.
The briefing was attended by representatives of SBMCs from 14 beneficiary schools selected by UBEC for the 2025 SBMC-SIP intervention. The schools are: Olou Primary School, Bomadi; Atanaru Primary School, Uro; Uwangue Primary School Jakpa; Ogedegbe Primary School, Warri; Ilojeh Primary School, Idumesah; Ugbolu Primary School 2, Ugbolu; Ododo Primary School, Amai; Temizibou Primary School, Okpokunou; Ethiope Primary School, Okuoke Idjedake, Ogodo Primary School, Sapele; Onidjo Primary School, Uwheru; Adane Okpe Primary School, Oreropke; Egware Primary School, Ozoro and Mariere Primary School, Evwreni.
