March 10, 2026

Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to improving the learning experience of pupils with the distribution of instructional materials to public schools across the State.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony organised by the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Governor’s wife said the initiative would significantly enhance the learning experience of thousands of children across Delta State.
“Education is the foundation of any progressive society. No state or nation can achieve sustainable development without investing in the education of its children. This administration will continue to support initiatives that improve teaching and learning in our schools,” she said.
She disclosed that textbooks and notebooks had been provided in large quantities alongside farm tools, sports equipment and assistive devices, all meant for onward distribution to schools across the State.
According to her, the provision of these materials reflects a deep understanding of education as not only classroom learning but a holistic process aimed at the total development of the child.
She therefore urged stakeholders in the education sector to join hands with the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in building a better future for every child in Delta State by removing barriers to education and fostering an inclusive, compassionate and progressive society where no child is left behind.
In an earlier remark, the Commissioner for Primary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, said the Ministry remained determined to ensure that every child in Delta State, regardless of location, has access to quality educational resources.
She explained that by distributing the materials across all the 25 Local Government Areas of the State, the Government was promoting equity, inclusiveness and equal opportunities in line with the educational vision of the present administration.
The Commissioner also urged Education Secretaries and Head Teachers to ensure that the materials are judiciously utilised for the benefit of pupils. She further noted that the Governor’s wife’s consistent passion for the welfare of children continues to inspire stakeholders in the sector, adding that her presence at the ceremony underscores the importance Governor Oborevwori attaches to the development of young learners in the State.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, Samuel Mariere, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to expanding digital learning in Delta schools.
He revealed that effective digital schools have been established across the three Senatorial Districts of the State. These include Uzoigwe Primary School in Delta North; Nana Primary School and Ugware Primary School in Delta South; as well as Mariere Primary School and Oharisi Primary School in Delta Central.
Mariere explained that through collaboration between the State Government and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the schools have been equipped with interactive electronic boards and tablets for both pupils and teachers to enhance teaching and learning.
Hon Mariere also noted that since the inception of the current administration, Delta SUBEB has continued to enjoy strong support from both the state government and UBEC, which has helped position the state among the leading performers in basic education delivery in Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, the State Coordinator, Mrs Sharon Dafiluelo, commended Delta State for being at the forefront of education, sports and agriculture.
She emphasised that learning should not end in the classroom, noting that pupils must be able to complete assignments at home.
According to her, many pupils previously struggled with homework due to lack of textbooks, a gap the Government is now addressing through the provision of essential learning materials.
She added that through collaborative counterpart funding between the State and Federal Government, vital resources are now being made available to support effective teaching and learning.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of an award of recognition to Tobore Oborevwori for her immense support to basic education in the state, as well as the inspection and official flag-off of the distribution of teaching and learning materials to schools. The award was given in recognition of her passion for representing the interests of children in Delta State through her Foundation.
The award was presented on behalf of the children of Delta State as a token of appreciation for her philanthropic efforts.
School Improvement Grants were also presented to selected schools across the state.
